Tragic man found dead in drain in Donegal named locally as dad-of-one Tommy Kelly

Gardai have launched a probe after the shocking discovery of a body in a drain.

A member of the public made the grim find on Saturday night near the Donegal and Fermanagh border.

Officers were called to the scene and are investigating the death of the 37-year-old dad of one who has been named locally as Tommy Kelly.

Mr Kelly was described as “popular and pleasant”, while a source told the Irish Mirror he will be sadly missed by his large immediate family and friends in the area.

Mr Kelly’s body was discovered at around 11pm near the roadside in the townland of Cloghore – around 5km from Ballyshannon, Co Donegal, and less than a kilometre from the Fermanagh border village of Belleek.

It is understood the remains had been in the drain for some time.

A technical examination was carried out at the scene and the remains were brought to Sligo University Hospital for a postmortem.

Garda sources said they would wait on its outcome before establishing the course of their probe.
