Tragic M90 lorry driver who died in horror crash named by police

Police Scotland have named the victim of a fatal M90 road crash as Kenneth Cheyne.

The 55-year-old, from Turriff in Aberdeenshire, died yesterday after the lorry he was driving fell off the flyover.

Emergency services raced to the scene on the M90 near Perth on Thursday, after the HGV crashed through a safety barrier onto the A912 below.

The vehicle plummeted 40ft onto a slip road below in what turned into a devastating crash at around 7.20am.

Mr Cheyne was the driver and only occupant of the loaded vehicle carrying potatoes when it negotiated the sever curve to the right on the raised section of the road.

The lorry unsuccessfully completed the turn and plummeted onto the A912 slip road below.

It appears the load shifted and pulled the cab over, sending the lorry down on its side.

The HGV cab landed roof down, separating from the body of the truck with parts of the lorry being crushed on impact.

Sergeant John Learmonth of the Road Policing Unit in Perth said: “Our thoughts are with Mr Cheyne’s family and friends at this difficult time.

“Our enquiries are continuing to establish the full circumstances and I would urge any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage who hasn’t yet spoken to an officer to get in touch.

“Any information can be passed by calling 101 and quoting 0396 of 4 November.”
