Tragic last wish of dying mum who doesn't want to see family forced to pay for funeral

A mum with incurable cancer is facing heartbreaking worries over what will happen when she is gone.

Stacey Pentland, 36, discovered she had cancer last year after experiencing pain while cutting the grass.

Scans tragically revealed tumours over her body that could not be cured.

The mum-of-four is desperate to spend as much time as she can with her children.

But she says there is one concern that is nagging her, Chronicle Live reports.

When she dies, she doesn't want her family to be landed with extortionate funeral costs, simply so they can say goodbye properly.

Though she's been saving as much as she can towards a service which she's already planned, the benefits she's been relying on ever since cancer forced her to give up work make it almost impossible to put anything else aside.

It's a terrifying consideration for a woman who, just months ago says she was "at my happiest".

Stacey's world came crashing down last April, when she was hit by a sudden pain while cutting the grass.

Hours later, she was at Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary, where she learned that not only did she have cancer, but that tumours had spread throughout her body and couldn't be cured.

Knowing she doesn't have long left, Stacey has been battling through gruelling courses of chemotherapy aimed at stopping the spread of the disease, to give her as much time as possible with children Chloe, 20, Sophie, 18, Geordie, 14, 12-year-old AJ, and her husband Anthony.

"It's unbelievably gruelling, the chemo absolutely floors me," said Stacey, from Walker.

"But I'm doing it for my kids - they could chop all my limbs off if it meant I could be there for my kids for longer.

"I wouldn't still be here, fighting, if it wasn't for them.

"I couldn't be prouder of them, they're the most amazing kids in the world, they really are."

The family enjoyed an "amazing" Christmas, after doctors told Stacey her cancer's growth had stalled.

But she was devastated in January when she fell seriously ill with Covid-19, and her cancer began once again to spread fast.

Hoping to leave a legacy for her children as they grow up, Stacey has been recording TikTok videos which will help them remember her.

She's built up a huge following of over 50,000 people on the platform, with more than a million likes on her videos.

These clips have helped raise a huge amount of awareness, encouraging people to contact their doctor about worrying symptoms - and may even have saved lives.

"I never in a million years thought this would happen to me, but it can happen to anybody," she said.

"I started it because I felt unbelievable alone when I was diagnosed and I didn't want anybody else to feel that way.

"Now I've had thousands of messages of support, people saying 'because of you I went to the doctor, they found my cancer early'.

"At first it was overwhelming, some of the messages were heartbreaking, but it is great that they've got tested, they've had a smear test or got something checked, and now they have a chance."

A friend of Stacey's from TikTok, Andrea Mulligan, set up a GoFundMe page, to ease her money worries.

Already, the fund has raised over £900 with many people leaving supportive messages.

Stacey said: "I'm just really thankful to the lady who has set it up and everyone who has donated, because it is a big money, I've been
saving and saving for the funeral but it's been hard since I've been poorly.

"I've found out that it's unbelievable expensive to die, it's actually costing even more to have my body cremated in Washington where my family are.

I just don't want to leave my family to have to pay for it."
