Tragic Lachlan’s aunt backs Fairy trail campaign

Fun-loving Lachlan MacKenzie was just 12 when he fell to the ground more than two years ago as a rotten branch gave way on an old oak tree.

Now his auntie Donna Munro has made an impassioned plea for a solution to the health and safety row, revealed by the Ayrshire Post last week.

South Ayrshire Council want Fullarton Fairy Trail founder Donna Read to pay for public liabilty insurance in case someone is hurt by anything fairy-related in the woods.

Further pressure is now being heaped on the Council to find a solution and approve any insurance themselves after Donna Munro’s intervention.

She said: “This makes me feel so very angry - my nephew had a tragic fatality up the woods, through no fault of the fairy trail and we have never received an apology from the council because it was a tragic accident.

“We have a beautiful carving in his memory and I hope people will still visit it.

“South Ayrshire Council hold your head in shame. Let kids have fun and use their imagination.

“Nobody in their right mind would sue over a fall. It’s a magical place for children even if it is so hard to visit, the fairy trail makes it so much easier for me.

“I don’t know if I could go if they weren’t there. The fairy trail makes it somewhat easier, it makes it magical and I know Lachlan will love the company of the fairies.”

Despite a couragous attempt to revive him, Lachlan died at the scene in October 2016 when he fell 15 feet.

Later, several thousand pound were raised and a beautiful wooden carving in his memory now takes pride of place near the fairies.

Council officials have now met with the fairy trail organisers and “talks are continuing.”

Town councillor Craig Mackay has also intervened and wants a resolution.
