Tragic Scots teenager Amber Niven finally laid to rest months after body found in Hamilton woodland

The funeral of tragic Hamilton teenager Amber Niven has taken place.

The 16-year-old was laid to rest on Saturday, with her closest family and friends in attendance.

And in a touching tribute to the teen, Amber's heartbroken mum Carol Niven poignantly posted on social media: "Amber Niven - oor wean," following a touching service held in Larkhall, where the teenager grew up.

During the service, the family were asked if they would like to make a donation to charity. Amber's dad Craig chose to support the Hamilton-based Eilidh's Rainbow, which provides a holiday home for bereaved parents and siblings after child loss, as well as CPR awareness training for parents and carers and bereavement support groups for anyone to join.

The charity is close to the hearts of the Niven family.

Amber's death sent shockwaves through the Lanarkshire community and left her family devastated.

The keen singer had been reported missing from her Hamilton home on Friday, November 26 sparking a huge police search.

Tragically, her body was later discovered at Cadzow Glen close to the town centre two days later, on Sunday, November 28.

The youngster would have turned 17 on New Year's Day.

Amber's older brother, Connor Gibson, has since appeared in court charged in connection with her death.

The 19-year-old faces a charge of sexual assault and murder and is further accused of attempting to pervert the course of justice.

Gibson, of Hamilton, made no plea during his brief appearance via video link from HMP Polmont and has been remanded in custody.

A second man, Stephen Corrigan of Blantyre, was later charged with attempting to defeat the ends of justice in the case.

The 43-year-old made no plea or declaration and was fully committed for trial. Sheriff Andrew McIntyre remanded him in custody.
