Police have confirmed a teenage girl was killed after being struck by lightning while swimming in the sea off the US coast.
Paramedics were scrambled to Tybee Island, Georgia, at around 2:35pm on Saturday after reports of a death.
The Mirror reports how lifeguards were already on the scene and trying in vain to resuscitate the 15-year-old when police arrived.
The girl, who has not yet been named, was taken to hospital but later pronounced dead, Tybee Island Police Department said.
Detectives later learned that the teen had been visiting the city from her home state of Alabama.

And although it is more likely to strike land, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said that water can act as a conductor.
The local police forced said in a statement: "A 15 year old girl has died after being struck by lightning while swimming in the waters surrounding Tybee Island.
"The men and women of the City of Tybee Island are deeply saddened by the loss of this young woman and our hearts remain with her family and friends."
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the chances of getting hit by lightning are around one in 500,000.
