Tragic Gazza posed for selfies in exchange for drinks during Glasgow night out

Troubled Paul Gascoigne left fans worried for his health as he posed for selfies in return for free booze during a drunken night out in Glasgow.

Rangers legend Gazza was spotted drunkenly singing karaoke while on the town with a mystery woman.

Football supporters spoke of their sadness last night after seeing the 52-year-old star, who is battling alcoholism, struggle to talk as he downed drink after drink over the weekend.

Gazza, who last month was cleared of sexual assault after kissing a woman on a train – which he said was to give her a confidence boost after she was called a “fat lass” – was initially seen at Central Station in Glasgow.

The ex-England midfielder was talking to a female companion as he tried to hail a taxi as some people nearby shouted abuse.

Punter Adam Thoms then saw the footballing legend at the city’s Cosmopol karaoke bar where he claimed he was singing songs while being egged on by onlookers.

Tragically, Gazza was offering “selfies” with fans – but in exchange for vodka and coke.

Adam wrote online: “In Cosmopol and Gazza is in here on the karaoke.

“He shouted, ‘No Surrender’ when he was finished and I made a beeline for the exit.”

Asked if he’d got a picture with the Rangers hero, Adam said: “I didn’t. He was giving them out for a vodka and coke.”

Gazza was later spotted at the Grill on The Corner by fan Stuart Wilson, who put his picture on Instagram.

But Stuart said his joy at the meeting turned to concern as he realised his idol was drinking heavily.

Speaking of his sadness, Stuart said: “I hugged him and told him that I loved him.

“And I meant it. I told him that he was a legend and that his God-given genius had given me some of my happiest memories.

“I told him to look after himself and to get well and to get healthy. He could barely stand. And everybody was buying him drinks. Meeting your hero should be special but I felt like crying.”

Writing on his Instagram page, Stuart told the star: “I pray you beat your demons, Gazza.”

Other revellers also told how they encountered Gascoigne appearing to be under the influence over the weekend around the city centre.

Samuel Cook said: “This could only happen in Glasgow.

“Leave a Celtic pub to head to the bookies before kick-off and you bump into a steaming Gazza.”

Gascoigne was seen heading into the Blythswood Square hotel and it is understood he later left and went to the nearby Hilton hotel.

The latest sightings of the player were especially concerning for fans because he claimed to be off the booze.

The Geordie said he’d remained sober despite what he described as a “year of hell” because of the trial.

He said: “The last year has been a nightmare and I’ve worked hard to stay sober. In the last six months I’ve not touched a drop.”

A spokeswoman for Gazza last night refused to respond to any of the claims, saying: “I would like to remind you that all comments from yourselves must be completely factual.”
