Tragic East Lothian driver dies after van crashes into home on A199 road

A man has sadly passed away after crashing into a home at Abbey Toll near Haddington, East Lothian on Saturday night.

At around 8pm, emergency services raced to the incident on the A199 after a Vauxhall Combo van hit a house.

The Daily Record reports how a 48-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The home where the vehicle crashed been fenced off with traffic cones surrounding the cordon.

No one in the home was injured by the crash.

An image taken at the scene shows that there is extensive damage, with rubble remains visible from behind the metal fence.

Cops say they want to speak with anyone who may have witnessed the vehicle travelling eastbound on the A199 that evening.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers were called to the A199 near Haddington at around 7.55pm on Saturday, 15 May after a vehicle collided with a house.

“The driver and sole occupant of the van, a 48-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. Nobody from within the house was injured.

“Enquiries are ongoing into the cause of the crash and anyone who witnessed the Vauxhall Combo van travelling eastbound on the A199 and potentially has dashcam footage, or who saw the collision, should contact Police Scotland on 101 and quote incident number 3797 of 15 May.”
