Tragic discovery as body of rough sleeper found in Dublin city centre

Gardai are investigating after a body of a rough sleeper was found in Dublin city centre this morning.

The tragic discovery happened at 8.30 am as a man was found dead on Moore Street.

A garda spokesman said: "The body remains at the scene and a garda examination is underway.

"A post-mortem will be conducted at a later date, the results of which will determine the course of the investigation.

"Investigations ongoing."

It is understood that the man, whose age is unknown, was a rough sleeper.

North Inner City Independent Councillor Anthony Flynn said on Twitter: "Gardai have confirmed that the body of another person who was sleeping rough was found this morning in the city centre.

"My thoughts and prayers are with those who knew the person. A full investigation into circumstances as to why this person was sleeping rough is needed."
