Tragic Walkinstown dad found dead named locally with tributes flowing for popular man

A body found in the early hours of the morning in south Dublin has been identified as a Dublin dad-of-one.

Laurence Byrne was discovered unresponsive by Gardai in Lorcan O'Toole Park on August 2 at around 7:45am.

The tragic father was a loving parent to Gerard and a well-known and popular figure in the south Dublin area especially around Walkinstown.

The local coroner was notified on the morning of August 2 with Laurence's body removed from the scene followed by a post-mortem which determined the course of the garda investigation.

Tests from the post-mortem ruled out foul play with Laurence's death being treated as a personal tragedy.

Members of the local community paid tribute to Laurence and remembered his life in the Stannaway green last week.

A vigil was held at a tree in the park which has since been renamed locally as 'Laurence's tree'.

People Before Profit TD Bríd Smith TD expressed her sympathies online for Laurence's family and slammed the incident as another failure of the Government with over 40 people now dead due to homelessness in Dublin this year so far.

His R.I.P.ie death notice reads: "Byrne (Walkinstown) – Aug 2, 2021, (suddenly), Laurence, beloved father of Gerard and dear son of Ellen and the late Joe; Sadly missed by his loving son, mother, brother Willie, sisters Ellen, Mary, Celine and Anne, uncles, aunts, brothers-in-law, sister-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends."
