Tragic child ballet star, 14, dubbed 'next Billy Elliot' was found hanged

Tragic child ballet star Jack Burns who was dubbed 'the next Billy Elliot' was found hanged at his home.

The dancer, 14, was rushed to hospital where he was sadly later pronounced dead earlier this month.

Police are not treating Jack's death as suspicious.

Following his death, one friend wrote on Facebook that the teenager "did not deserve the stuff he went through".

They said: "Jack was such an amazing boy and he did not deserve the stuff he went through. He never ever wanted to hurt anyone, there was not a bad bone in his body.

"I'm absolutely heartbroken that I have lost someone who meant so much to me and many more people."

Jack won a place at a prestigious Glasgow ballet school at the age of nine and a role in hit series Outlander at the age of 14.

News of the teenager's death was shared on the Facebook page of Elite Academy of Dance.

"It is with a very heavy heart that we write this post," a member of the Academy wrote.

"Tragically much loved student Jack Burns on Sunday, December 1.

"Jack was an inspiration to everyone at Elite and touched the hearts of everyone who had the pleasure of working and dancing with him since 2012.

"We, and all of Jack's family and friends, are naturally completely devastated and at a loss for words and answers."

Shocked friends took to social media to pay tribute with one writing: "Your parents / family / friends must be so unbelievably proud of you and what you've achieved.

"What an amazing person and to do what makes you happy and be you, no matter what. Takes such rare courage that a lot of us don't have."

Another wrote: "Such awful new, a handsome talented boy gone far too soon. My heart goes out to Jack's family! Ur in my thoughts at this sad sad time x."

Another person said: "Since I heard about Jack passing, I can not get his mum, dad and brother out of my mind, absolutely heartbreaking."

Jack stood out as a dancer despite the shortness of his career.

As well as appearing in ITV thriller In Plain Sight alongside Martin Compston, he shared the stage with Duncan from Blue when they performed in Priscilla Queen of the Desert.

Jack had other parts on the silver screen including BBC One show ‘One of Us’ plus CBBC show ‘Eve’.

His funeral took place at St Mary's Church, Patrick Street, Greenock.

The youngster, who attended St Columba's School in Kilmacolm, leaves behind his mum, Karen, dad Robert and brother, Rory.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: 'At around 3.30pm on December 1, police were called following the death of a 14-year-old boy within a house in Greenock.

'Enquiries are ongoing to establish the exact cause of his death which police are not treating as suspicious.'
