Tragedy as young man dies after Mercedes crashes into tree

A man has died after a car smashed into a tree in Radcliffe.

Emergency services were called to the fatal crash on Radcliffe Moor Road at around 9pm on Wednesday (August 19).

A grey Mercedes-Benz A Class A45 had collided with a tree, police said.

A 27-year-old man was taken to hospital from the scene with serious head and chest injuries.

But despite the best efforts of medical staff, he was sadly pronounced dead a short time later.

No arrests have been made and police enquiries are ongoing.

Detectives are now appealing for anyone with information to come forward, particularly anyone who might have dash cam footage of the incident.

Sergeant Brian Orr, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “This is a tragic incident in which a man has sadly lost his life.

"Our thoughts remain with the man’s loved ones at this very difficult time.

“This is a busy stretch of road, and I am hopeful that a number of people may have witnessed this collision and have dash cam footage or information that can help us to complete our investigation.

Radcliffe Moor Road was closed off last night and pictures from the scene show several police vehicles in attendance.

Pictures show the grey Mercedes completely smashed up, with the front of the car badly damaged.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 4741, quoting incident number 2998 of August 19.
