Tragedy as young dad 'with heart of gold' killed by simple driving error

A devastated family have paid tribute to a beloved dad who died in motorbike crash after making a "simple" mistake.

Shane Raymond Williams was tragically killed in the road accident on February 4 last year in Rotherham, South Yorkshire.

The 24-year-old was father to a two-year-old girl and was trying for another baby with his partner.

His heartbroken parents said Shane 'had a heart of gold' and is 'missed everyday' by family and friends, Hull Live reports.

An inquest into the young dad's death at Doncaster Crown Court on Tuesday heard how he lost his life after losing control of the motorcycle, which he had only bought the day before.

Mrs S L Slater concluded the "inexperienced motorcyclist" died after making a "simple mistake".

She said that Shane, who suffered a fractured skull, had left the carriageway and collided with shrubbery on the country road after losing control of his vehicle.

An investigation by South Yorkshire Police confirmed neither drugs or alcohol were a factor in the accident, and tests found there were no issues with the road environment or the motorbike that contributed to Shane's death.

The "natural salesman", who was well known for purchasing and selling cars, had bought the motorbike on February 3.

He then rode it home safely, despite poor weather conditions.

But the next day, when the ground was "wet" but "safe enough", according to a witness, he lost control.

Forensic Collision Investigators believe he may have been affected by "undulations" in the road which can have a "destabilising effect."

The court also heard that Shane, who was not known to have driven motorbikes before, "should have undergone additional training" and a "separate test" before driving the 600cc motorbike.

Tragically, he died after making what Mrs Slater termed "a simple mistake" during his ride.

Shane leaves behind his parents, his three siblings, his partner, and his daughter, now three.

Speaking after the hearing, his family said they were most proud of Shane for being a good father and for the "progression" he made after attempting to take his own life in 2018.

"He'd just got back into a good space. Him and his partner were trying for a baby," his mum added.
