A body was found near to a pub in Walkergate, police have confirmed.
Officers were called to a report of concern for the welfare of a woman near Turbinia Public House Fossway at around 4.15pm on Friday.
Police arrived in the area and the body of a woman was sadly found. Officers have confirmed there is believed to be no suspicious circumstances.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “At around 4.15pm on Friday (July 22), police received a report of concern for the welfare of a woman, near the Turbinia Public House Fossway.
“Officers attended and the body of a woman was found. There is believed to be no third party involvement and a report will be prepared for the coroner.”
