Tragedy as woman dies after falling from Tyne Bridge in Newcastle

A woman has died after falling from the Tyne Bridge in Newcastle.

Emergency services were called to the Newcastle Quayside shortly before 7am on Tuesday, December 29.

A woman had fallen from the Tyne Bridge but she could not be saved and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her death is not being treated as suspicious by police.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "Shortly before 7am today we received a report that a woman had fallen from the Tyne Bridge in Newcastle.

"Emergency services attended, however, sadly the woman was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

"There is not believed to be any third-party involvement and a report is being prepared for the coroner."

A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service said: "We were called to an incident on the Quayside in Newcastle at 6.47 this morning.

"We dispatched two double-crewed ambulances and two crews from our Hazardous Area Response Team."
