A pensioner has tragically died after being hit by a van on a Leeds road.
West Yorkshire Police were called at 10.15am on Thursday, August 13, by Yorkshire Ambulance Service to reports of a collision involving a pedestrian and a van in Athlone Grove, Armley.
Unfortunately, the woman, who was 69, died from her injuries and the driver of the van was arrested.
Several police officers were present at the scene as the street was cordoned off before the road was reopened to traffic.
The driver of the van, a man in his 50s, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by driving without due care and attention. He was later released under investigation.
A spokesman for the police said: “Police are appealing for witnesses to a road traffic collision in Leeds yesterday in which a 69-year-old woman pedestrian died.
"At 10.14am on Thursday, August 14, police were called to the incident on Back Athlone Grove, Armley, where a Ford Transit van had been involved in a collision with the woman.
"She was taken to hospital by ambulance but was pronounced dead a short time later."
