Tragedy as teenage girl dies after she is hit by train between Bristol and Bath

A teenage girl has died after she was hit by train between Bath and Bristol on Bank Holiday Monday.

British Transport Police were called to the scene in Keynsham where the teenager was pronounced dead just before 1.30pm.

The tragedy resulted in rail services being suspended at Bath Spa station, Somerset Live reports.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said: "We were called at 1.26 pm on 31/08 to Keynsham station following a report of a casualty on the tracks.

"Officers attended, but sadly a teenage girl was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious."

Great Western Railway services between Bath Spa and Bristol Temple Meads were disrupted for several hours while emergency services attended with delays reported past 5.30pm.

Bus replacement services were put on to cover the cancelled or delayed services.
