Tragedy as teen dies after dropping mobile phone into bath water

A 15-year-old schoolgirl has been electrocuted in the bath after her charging mobile phone fell into the water.

The teenager was taking a bath at her home in Marseille in France, when the tragedy happened on Sunday, it has been claimed.

Paramedics rushed the girl, who is identified only as Tiffenn, to a hospital in Timone but she was unable to be resuscitated and was pronounced dead, Mail Online reports.

The girl is believed to have died of cardio-respiratory failure brought on from the electrocution but an investigation has been launched to ascertain her exact cause of death.

According to French media, the girl's death has provoked a 'wave of emotion' on social media and magazine Closer reported that her name is Tiffenn.

The make and model of the phone has not been disclosed.

Last September a 26-year-old accountant died when the mobile phone she was charging also slipped into her bath.

Evgenia Shulyatyev died within minutes after the device fell into the water.

She and was found dead by her heartbroken mum Vera at her home in Kirovo-Chepetsk, west Russia.

Evgenia's tragic death was the latest in a string of similar tragedies in the nation including a 10-year-old girl who dropped her charging phone in the bath in August.

In June 26-year-old Liliya Novikova was electrocuted in her bathroom in Moscow.

The body of Lilya, who was dubbed Russia’s “most beautiful poker player”, was found after her parents were unable to make contact with her so sent a neighbour to check on her.

Last November a 13-year-old girl in Amsterdam suffered deep burns after she was received an electrical shock when her charging phone fell in the bath.

The Dutch girl screamed out in pain after the phone sparked in the water, prompting her mum to run into the bathroom and pull her out.

When paramedics arrived at their home they punched the girl in the sternum in a successful bid to wake her up.

She spent two days in hospital where she later received surgery to help heal the deep burns on her hands and stomach.
