Tragedy as person dies on railway tracks in Oldham

A person has died on the railway tracks at a train station in Oldham.

Emergency services were called to Greenfield station at around 5.30pm on Tuesday (August 18) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

Paramedics and ambulance crews attended but the person was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident is not being treated as suspicious, British Transport Police said.

A file is now being prepared for the coroner.

A number of police and ambulance vehicles - including an air ambulance - were pictured outside Greenfield last night.

Emergency crews were also spotted walking along the platform of the station.

A spokesperson from North West Ambulance confirmed that a number of resources were sent to the scene, but that they did not take anyone to hospital.

In a statement, a BTP spokesperson said: “Officers were called to Greenfield at 5.34pm last night (18/08) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
