Tragedy as man dies after taking ill at the wheel while driving lorry on Scots road

A man has tragically died after being involved in a horror crash on a Scots road yesterday.

Emergency services were called to the A980 at Raemoir in Banchory, Aberdeenshire, after the driver of a Mitsubishi Canter truck left the road at around 12.20pm.

Despite the best efforts of paramedics, the 57-year-old man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

The family have been notified by police.

Officers closed the busy road to allow for accident investigation work which took more than four hours.

It's believed the lorry driver took unwell at the wheel before crashing his vehicle.

Police say a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “A 57-year-old man has died after the vehicle he was driving left the A980 at Raemoir.

"Emergency services were made aware of the incident around 12.20pm on Thursday, 4 March, 2021.

“The man was the driver of a Mitsubishi Canter truck, which was the only vehicle involved. He was pronounced dead at the scene and his next of kin have been made aware.

“A full report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course.”
