Tragedy as man dies after falling from Redheugh Bridge onto Newcastle Quayside

A 41-year-old man has died after falling from the Redheugh Bridge onto the road below.

Emergency services were called to Newcastle Quayside at around 8.45am on Tuesday to concerns for the welfare of a man.

Paramedics attended and discovered the man had fallen from the Redheugh Bridge and had landed on Skinnerburn Road, which was cordoned off by police.

He passed away at the scene as a result of his injuries.

Northumbria Police has confirmed there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.

A spokeswoman said: “Shortly before 9am on Tuesday we received a report that a man had fallen from the Redheugh Bridge.

"Emergency services attended and found a 41-year-old man had fallen from the bridge and landed on the road below.

"Sadly he passed away from his injuries.

"The death is not being treated as suspicious and there is not believed to be any third party involvement.

"A report into the incident has been prepared and passed on to the coroner."
