Tragedy as man dies after crashing into road barrier in Garforth

An 81-year-old man has died after crashing his car in Garforth.

West Yorkshire Police were called to the A642 Aberford Road at 10.19am today and found that a Mini Countryman had crashed into the roadside barrier near St Benedict's Church.

The driver, an 81-year-old man, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

The road has been closed for much of today as police conduct their investigations, with heavy traffic forming from Parkinson Approach by the Tesco superstore to Station Road.

West Yorkshire Police said: "At 10.19am today, police were called to a road traffic collision on the A642 Aberford Road, Garforth.

"A Mini Countryman had been in collision with a roadside barrier near to St Benedict’s Church. The driver, an 81-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

"A road closure remains in place for scene investigation work and pending recovery of the vehicle."
