Tragedy as man dies after crashing car at major Wigan junction

A man has died after crashing on a busy road in Wigan this afternoon (April 22). Police say the crash happened around midday at the junction of Beech Hill Avenue, Scot Lane, and Woodhouse Drive.

The driver crashed after suffering a suspected medical episode, GMP said. They were rushed to hospital but pronounced dead a short time later.

The area was particularly busy at the time due to the crash happening close to Wigan Athletic's DW Stadium, who are playing this afternoon. An air ambulance was called to the scene with the road closed off for some time. The road has since reopened.
