Tragedy as man dies after collision with bus in Sunderland city centre

A man has died following a collision with a bus in Sunderland.

Police received a report that a male pedestrian had been hit by a bus on Queen Street in the city centre at around 7.35pm on Friday.

Emergency services attended but the 64-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Nobody on the bus was injured.

Specialist officers from Northumbria Police are currently supporting the man's family.

An investigation into the collision has been launched by the police's motor patrols department.

And officers are now appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

Police are looking to speak to any motorists who were in the area at the time who have dash-cam footage of the incident.

Anyone who can assist police is asked to report it online at the Northumbria Police website, or by calling 101, quoting log 975 21/05/21.
