Tragedy as man dies after car crashed into lamppost and tree in Shadwell

An 83-year-old man has tragically died after his car left the road and crashed into a lamppost and tree in Leeds.

West Yorkshire Police were called at 10.25am yesterday, June 18, after a blue Mini Copper left the road in Ash Hill Drive in the Shadwell area of the city.

The driver, an 83-year-old local man, was taken to hospital for treatment and was sadly later pronounced dead.

Officers from the force now want to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the crash or saw the movements of the car before hand.

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said: "Police are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision in Leeds yesterday.

"At 10.25am a blue Mini Cooper left the road in Ash Hill Drive, Shadwell, and was in collision with a lamppost and a tree.

"The driver, an 83-year-old local man, was taken to hospital for treatment and was sadly later pronounced dead.

"Officers would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or the movements of the vehicle prior to the collision, particularly anyone with relevant dashcam or CCTV footage."
