Tragedy as man dies after being hit by train in Leeds

A man has died after being hit by a train in Leeds, British Transport Police has confirmed.

Emergency services including paramedics were called to the line in Kirkstall following reports of a casualty on the tracks at 4.53pm yesterday (Monday).

Sadly, the man was pronounced dead at the scene and British Transport Police says the incident is not being treated as suspicious.

A spokesperson said: “British Transport Police were called to the line in Kirkstall, Leeds, at 4.53pm yesterday (13 April) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

“Paramedics also attended, however sadly a man was pronounced dead at the scene.

“This incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

As emergency services dealt with the incident train services between Leeds and Shipley were cancelled or delayed between 5pm and 8pm.

Northern Railway tweeted: “Due to the emergency services dealing with an incident between Leeds and Shipley the line is blocked.”

In a follow-up tweet, replying to a user asking if there were trespassers on the line, they added: “Someone has unfortunately been struck by a train and the emergency services are on-site.”
