Tragedy as man, 74, dies in Rothwell flat fire

A man has tragically died after a fatal house fire in Leeds.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue were called at around noon yesterday, Monday May 17, after reports of a flat fire in Wood Drive in the Rothwell area.

West Yorkshire Police were also called to the scene.

A 74-year-old man, the sole occupant of the address, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say there were no suspicious circumstances.

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said: "At 12:31pm yesterday (17/5) police were contacted by the fire service who were attending a fire at a flat in Wood Drive, Rothwell.

"A 74-year-old man, who was the sole occupant of the address, was pronounced dead at the scene.

"There were no suspicious circumstances and the Coroner’s Office has been informed."

At the time of the fire on Monday the road was closed off while fire crews worked at the scene.
