Tragedy as locals in shock after body of Irish man pulled from sea at Spanish beach

The body of an Irish man was pulled from the sea in an early morning tragedy.

The incident happened earlier this morning at Zurriola Beach in San Sebastián in Spain.

The 31-year-old entered the sea with two of his friends, also of Irish nationality.

Emergency services rushed to the scene after his friends sounded an alarm around 4 am.

The man's body was found at the bottom of the sea, local news site El Diario Vasco reports.

Zurriola Beach is a popular surfing beach located in Basque County. It is known for its strong waves which can reach the height of five to six feet.

A spokeswoman for the Department of Foreign Affairs said: "The Department of Foreign Affairs is aware of the case and providing consular assistance. The Department does not comment on the details of any specific case."
