Tragedy as Edinburgh man dies in housing scheme with police locking down street

A man has tragically died after emergency services swooped on an Edinburgh street on Tuesday afternoon.

Police and paramedics were called to Primrose Street, Leith, at around 2.30pm on Tuesday June 5.

A number of police cars, two vans, sniffer dogs and two ambulances ere scrambled to the scene while officers closed off the whole street.

Emergency services were called to a report of a man injured but sadly he was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers have opened inquiries to establish the full circumstances.

Lothian Buses have diverted the number 25 and 21 bus around Lochend Road and Lochend Avenue until further notice.

An eyewitness said: "They’ve cordoned off the whole of Primrose Street now and everyone’s been moved on, just residents allowed in.

"It looked like residents of the building were being interviewed by police, dozens of schoolchildren standing around watching and another police van showed up when we got moved on."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 2.30pm on Tuesday, 6 June, we were called to a report of a man injured in the Primrose Street area of Edinburgh.

"Emergency services attended and the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
