Police have confirmed that a boy has tragically died after plummeting from the window of a hotel.
There was a large police presence in the area on the afternoon of August 18, with a car park being closed off to the public while officers probed the scene.
South Yorkshire Police have now confirmed that a boy, whose age has not been specified, passed away after falling from a window of the Sheffield Metropolitan Hotel, which is based in the city centre.
Yorkshire Live reports that in a statement, police said: "We are sorry to share a boy has sadly died after falling from a building in Sheffield yesterday afternoon.
"Emergency services were called to the Sheffield Metropolitan Hotel on Blonk Street, Sheffield at around 2.30pm on August 18 after reports the boy had fallen from a window.
"The boy’s family are being supported by specially trained officers. No formal identification has taken place yet.
"Enquiries are in the early stages to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the incident."
The force had posted earlier yesterday saying there was a "large presence" at the scene and asked people to avoid the area.
