Tragedy as body pulled from Wigan lake in search for missing man

A body was tragically pulled from a lake in Wigan in the ongoing search for a missing man.

Police and specialist water search teams were called out to the vicinity of Scotman's Flash, a large lake south of Wigan, shortly after 1.30pm in their search for a high-risk missing person.

A body was later found in the water, and it is understood that formal identification has since taken place, but Greater Manchester Police have declined to issue any further details.

Using two boats, water team members based at Bolton Mountain Rescue searched the lake while others specialist teams searched areas of nearby woodland before they were stood down later on Sunday evening.

A spokesperson for the Bolton Mountain Rescue Team shared: "Greater Manchester Police requested our assistance in searching for a high-risk missing person in the vicinity of Scotsman's Flash, south of Wigan.

"Following a discussion with the Police Search Advisor, search areas were plotted on our mapping system. Using our two boats, Water Team members undertook a search of the lake while other team members searched areas of woodland and dense undergrowth. The team was stood down at 7.15pm when searching of all the areas was complete."
