Tragedy as body of missing woman found in wooded area, police confirm

The body of a missing woman has been founded in a wooded area, police have confirmed.

A member of the public alerted police after discovering the body at roughly 8.35pm on Monday, June 19. Formal identification confirmed it is that of missing Aimee Williams, who vanished from Scunthorpe on Saturday, June 17.

The 33-year-old's disappearance prompted a huge search effort, with Humberside Police scouring local areas with dog units, trawled through CCTV and making house to house enquiries. Following the discovery of her body, a large cordon was set up around the site, Grimsby Live reports.

Authorities say her death is not being treated as suspicious and a report is being prepared for the Coroner. Her family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.

Inspector Simon Duffield said: “Aimee’s family have been informed and are being supported by our officers. Our thoughts remain with them at this incredibly difficult time.

“Aimee was reported to us as missing on Saturday 17 June, and our enquiries commenced swiftly to locate her. We conducted extensive enquiries, doing everything we could to locate Aimee, including local area searches with our dog unit, CCTV trawls, and house-to-house enquiries to understand the circumstances in which Aimee had gone missing.

“We received a call from a member of the public at around 8.35pm last night advising they had discovered the body of a woman, and they believed it to be Aimee, in a wooded area. Emergency services were immediately deployed, officers attended to put a cordon in place, and unfortunately Aimee was confirmed deceased at the scene.

“Aimee’s death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will now be prepared for the Coroner. I would like to thank everyone who offered their assistance and support in trying to find Aimee, your help is as always, very much appreciated.”
