The body of a homeless man in his 30s was discovered on Dorset Street in the early hours of this morning.
It is understood that he died by suicide. The tragic incident is the fourth homeless death to have occured in the capital over the last couple of days.
The rise in the number of deaths has been referred to as a "stain on the homeless services" by Cllr Anthony Flynn.
The CEO of Inner City Helping Homeless told Dublin Live: "Obviously any deaths within the homeless services is tragic but what we are seeing is an increase in the number of people who have passed away in the homeless services.
"This is just another example of how the mental health supports aren’t in place for the people who are suffering.
"Again it’s another stain on homeless services in terms of the level of deaths we have seen over the last number of weeks, and this week alone there have been three deaths.
"We have called on the Housing Minister over the last number of days to ensure we have the appropriate mental health support services for every individual that enters the homeless services. That’s just not happening. It’s not happening on the ground."
Earlier today we reported that two young women have tragically died within hours of each other at a north Dublin homeless service.
The body of a 34-year-old woman was discovered at Abigail Women's Centre in Finglas at around 6am on Tuesday morning.
A second woman, aged 21, was discovered to have died at 10:30am.
It's understood the 34-year-old woman died by suicide while it remains unclear how the 21-year-old woman died.
A third woman, who had been living in the centre for a number of years, sadly died in hospital on Sunday evening.
Speaking about the death on Dorset Street, a garda spokeswoman said: "Gardaí attended the scene of an incident on Dorset Street in the early hours of this morning, Wednesday 22 July 2020.
"A male, aged in his 30s, was discovered deceased in the area. His body was removed to Dublin City Morgue."
