Tragedy as body of helpless newborn baby boy found dumped in bin

A newborn baby was found dead inside a rubbish bin in an alleyway, police said.

The tot, who was less than six months old, was discovered abandoned on Sunday in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Police have now called on the public to help identify him.

But they say there were no obvious signs of injury.

Residents shared their shock today.

"I don't know how somebody could do that.

"You don't leave a baby in the trash. It's shocking, very shocking," one distressed father said.

Another man told 13 Action News : "This is disgusting."

The baby was found about a 20-minute drive from Las Vegas' famous strip.

The coroner is expected in the coming days to release his identity and cause and manner of death once his next of kin has been traced.

Under Nevada's Safe Haven Law, parents and guardians can safely and anonymously surrender the child if they are unable to care for them.

No legal consequences will follow as long as the baby has not suffered abuse and is no more than one month old.
