Tragedy as body found washed up on Tynemouth Longsands beach

A body has been found washed up on Tynemouth Longsands.

Northumbria Police has confirmed that they were called to reports of a body being found on the North Tyneside beach just after 6am on Saturday.

Enquiries are now being made to try and identify the person who was found.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Shortly before 6.20am today (Saturday) we received a report that a body had been washed up on Longsands Beach, Tynemouth.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances around the incident and to identify the person found.”

Pictures taken at the scene show emergency services on the ramp at the south end of the beach close to where the body had been found.
