Police have discovered a body while searching for missing 50-year-old Fay Barney, who vanished more than a week ago.
Fay was last seen leaving her home in the Totteridge area of High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, last Friday morning. CCTV captured her walking down Totteridge Road at 10.41am and, around six minutes later, heading up Lucas Road.
Today, officers confirmed they found a body in the Lucas Wood area of the town.
A Thames Valley Police spokesperson said: “We are extremely saddened to confirm that officers searching for a missing woman from High Wycombe have very sadly located a body in the Lucas Wood area of the town.
“Colleagues from Buckinghamshire Lowland Search & Rescue, working alongside our officers, sadly located the woman’s body this afternoon following extensive searches.
“Although the person has not yet been formally identified, we believe this to be Fay, aged 50, who was reported missing last Friday.”
Fay’s family have been informed and are being supported at what police described as an “extremely upsetting time.”
The death is currently being treated as unexplained but not suspicious, and a file will be prepared for the Buckinghamshire Coroner.
Inspector Hayley McEvoy, based at High Wycombe police station, had previously said the force was “extremely concerned” for Fay’s welfare and that officers had been “working hard to find her.”
