A body has been found in the search for a missing Scots doctor.
Police have confirmed the grim discovery was made a wooded area in Newton, Cambuslang around 10.45am this morning.
While formal identification has to take place, the family of NHS Lanarkshire medic Catriona Gaskell have been told of the development.
Catriona, who is known as Cat, had been missing from her home in Cambuslang for nearly two days after vanishing on Saturday August 14.
The 29-year-old was last seen leaving her home in Fallow Grove at around 7.55 pm.
She was then spotted heading towards Red Deer Road and into the wooded area nearby.
The young doctor had not been in contact with friends or family since, something police describe as 'very out of character'.
Cat has never been missing before, sparking a frantic police search to find her with worried friends and family sharing a number of appeals on social media.
A statement issued by Police Scotland today tragically revealed the find.
It read: "Around 10.45am on Monday, 16 August, officers searching for the missing woman discovered a body in a wooded area in Newton, Cambuslang.
"Although formal identification has still to take place, the family of Catriona Gaskell has been informed.
"There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and a full report will be forwarded to the Procurator Fiscal.
"Ms Gaskell's family has asked that their privacy be respected at this very distressing time."
Her heartbroken partner Robbie Thomson put out a desperate appeal on social media in a bid to track her down.
He said: "My partner has been missing since last night.
"She left our house on foot at around 8pm, I have ring doorbell footage.
"Her family and friends haven't heard from her and the police are involved."
