Tragedy as body found in mass search for missing man

Police have discovered a body as part of a widespread search for a missing man.

Officers launched a mass operation after a man in his 30s was reported missing from his home at approximately 9pm on October 27.

The police helicopter was deployed in Sunderland to help officers with sniffer dogs on the ground as they searched the city for the missing individual, reports Chronicle Live.

Mountain Rescue volunteers also joined police to help assist with the search.

Northumbria Police has now sadly confirmed that the body of a man was found a short time later.

The man's family have been informed with officers believing there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.

A Northumbria Police spokesman said: “Shortly before 9pm yesterday (Wednesday) we received a report that a man in his 30s had gone missing from his home in Sunderland."

“A search was launched for the male in question, supported by the National Police Air Service (NPAS) and Mountain Rescue volunteers.

“Sadly, the male was found deceased a short time later.

"His family have been notified and there is not believed to be any third party involvement. A report will be made for the coroner.”
