The tragedy unfolded just after 6pm last night after a major rescue operation got underway at Loch Snipe outside the village of Coylton.

Two helicopters and a number of fire engines, ambulances and police vehicles raced to the fishing loch - which is located about five miles from Ayr on the B742.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue boat was seen scanning the waters.

The air ambulance and Coastguard search and rescue helicopters left the scene just after 7pm.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “A 21 year-old man has died after a boat overturned on Snipe Loch, near Coylton around 6.05pm on Sunday, 27 September, 2020.

“There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and a full report will be forwarded to the Procurator Fiscal.”
