Trafford's Covid hotspots as borough becomes UK's worst-hit area and infections soar

These are all the Trafford Covid-19 hotspots as the borough sees its highest infection rate ever throughout the pandemic.

Trafford has become the worst affected area in the country as cases continue to soar.

Eight of its neighbourhoods are in the top ten areas with the highest case numbers across the whole of Greater Manchester.

On Friday, health officials announced they were asking pupils and staff to once again wear masks following 29 outbreaks in schools.

Helen Gollins, acting director of public health at Trafford council said that ‘sadly our Covid-19 rate in Trafford is very high and it continues to rise’.

To date, 78.5 pc of residents aged 12 and over have received their first dose of the injection, with 73 pc having both jabs.

In the seven days to October 7, there were 1,978 positive tests in the borough - that's 750 more than the previous week.

Trafford's infection rate is currently 832.6 cases per 100,000 people, according to the latest data from Public Health England.

While the whole borough is seeing cases rise, the hardest hit areas are concentrated in two bunches, in the north around Davyhulme, and in the south around Timperley.

The Altrincham East neighbourhood is the biggest hotspot for new cases across the whole borough.

It saw 100 new cases in the week to October 5, an increase of 62 from the previous week – a huge 163 per cent rise.

Next is Flixton and Moorside, which has the region’s highest infection rate.

It recorded 99 cases of Covid-19, another rise of 51 from the seven days prior.

Davyhulme is in third place with 94 incidences of the virus, a rise of 38.

This is followed by Timperley North, with 84 new cases, an increase of 36.

In fifth place is Urmston West – which has the second highest infection rate – and 83 people testing positive.

In contrast the Firswood neighbourhood saw just 29 new cases in the week to October 5.

Gorse Hill had 33, and Old Trafford recorded 38.

Altrincham West – the area that includes Altrincham Market – also had relatively low numbers, with 39 cases reported.

Partington is the fifth lowest for Covid-19 cases with 44 people testing positive.
