A teenage girl was found wandering the streets of a town asking for help unable to say anything but the words "help me".
Police have launched an investigation after a teenage girl was discovered in distressing circumstances yesterday morning, walking the streets of Whitecrook, Clydebank, Scotland.
The Clydebank Post reported that she could only communicate with the words “help me” as she approached strangers, and that she appeared to be visibly upset.
A witness told the local paper that the girl approached home carers who were working on St Andrews Way in Whitecrook on Monday morning, in the in West Dunbartonshire town.
She could only communicate the words "help me" and this, the paper reports, sparked fears she may have been a victim of human trafficking.
Police have not officially confirmed this.
She was taken to Clydebank Police Station around 11am and officers have now launched an investigation to try and figure out what happened.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 11am on Monday, 20 February, we were made aware of concerns relating to a teenage girl found in St Andrews Way, Clydebank.
“Enquiries to establish the full circumstances are ongoing and at an early stage."
