Traffic temporarily stopped near Nottingham due to forklift truck in carriageway

Traffic was stopped tonight (Saturday) on the A453 after a forklift truck was found blocking a carriageway.

The large vehicle was lying on its side when Highways England attended the scene on the southbound carriageway.

Traffic officers rushed to stop traffic, as well as officers from Nottinghamshire Police and Leicestershire Police.

Highways England were quick to open a lane through the scene so traffic wasn't held for longer than was neccessary.

On Twitter, Highways England East Midlands said: "The #A453 southbound #Parkway to #M1 J24 (#A453 #Nottingham #EastMidlandsAirport) traffic has been temporarily STOPPED due to a forklift truck in the carriageway.

"Traffic Officers & @nottspolice @LeicsPoliceRPU are currently at the scene."

They later added the above image, saying: "We are just opening a lane through scene now.

"Attached is a photo to show what it is we are dealing with."

The rescue operation for the truck was still ongoing at 9.30pm.
