Traffic stopped as police pin man to ground in dramatic arrest

This is the moment police swooped on a suspect who had just driven through the Wallasey Tunnel .

Officers carried out a road block on the Wirral side before pulling the man from his vehicle.

Footage shared with the ECHO shows the man being handcuffed while he lay on the road.

The operation, supported by a police dog unit, was carried out just before 5pm on Saturday evening.

One witness, called Tom, said: "After going through the tunnel the first turn-off was blocked off by two police cars so everybody was going straight towards the M53.

"As you got a mile or so up the road there was a road block. They had police blocking the road, one police car then came up the right hand side and one up the hard shoulder, it was crazy."

He said police quickly moved the car to release traffic following the arrest.
