Traffic lights not working on city centre road following serious crash

The traffic lights on a busy city centre road are not working following a crash which Elderly couple seriously injured in crash near Bristol's Harbourside

A blue Nissan Almera came off Hotwell Road, injuring the man and woman, before hitting a traffic light just before 1pm yesterday(April 7).

The pedestrians were taken to hospital via ambulance. The driver of the Nissan was also hospitalised but his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening

Part of Hotwell Road, Rownham Mead and Merchants Road were closed for more than five hours while collision investigators examined the scene.

In a post on Twitter, Travel West England said the traffic signals were still "all out" and advised motorists to approach with caution.

"The traffic signals are all out at the junction of Hotwell Rd/Merchants Rd following an RTC yesterday," the post read.

"Use caution on approach to the junction and pedestrian crossings."

Avon and Somerset Constabulary is keen to hear from anyone who saw the manner of driving of the blue Nissan Almera leading up to the collision.

Anyone with any information about the collision should contact police on 101, quoting reference 476 of Sunday, April 7.
