A crash involving three cars is causing heavy traffic on the Newcastle Inner City Bypass near Newcastle Road.
Paramedics have treated an elderly woman for an injury to her wrist, but a spokesperson for the NSW Ambulance said all occupants of the vehicles were out at the time paramedics arrived.
Crews arrived on the scene around noon, where traffic on Main Road at Jesmond near the University of Newcastle's Callaghan College approaching Newcastle Road is heavily congested.
Drivers have been urged to take care and reduce their speed as emergency services work to clear the way.
