Traffic heavily tailed back as vehicle appears to have come off busy road

A vehicle appears to have come off a busy road this morning.

Traffic on the A78 is tailed back northbound for over a mile according to an eyewitness, and it is causing major delays.

A recovery truck is on the scene along with emergency services and they appear to be studying the trees off the road.

Fire, ambulance and police crews are all in attendance at the incident near Todhill Training Centre between Irvine and Stevenston.

Pictures show that the incident appears to be serious and one lane is closed.

An eyewitness who was at the scene said: "It's very heavy traffic, it didn't look too bad as I was approaching, but then it stopped.

"It is queued away back past the Eglinton Interchange so it seems a pretty bad one."

A police spokeswoman said: "Police attended the A78 near Todhill around 10.40am on Wednesday, 18 December, following a one-car crash.

"The ambulance and fire services were called and one lane was closed."
