Police were called after a man and a woman were seen having a row on the hard shoulder of the M60.

A woman was arrested on suspicion of section 47 assault and of assaulting an emergency worker following the incident yesterday evening.

Officers were called to the motorway between junction 22 at Oldham and junction 23 for Ashton, at about 6.20pm.

Traffic had to be stopped while police responded.

The woman remains in custody awaiting interview.

A GMP spokesperson said: "At around 6:20pm, police were called to a report of a disturbance on the M60 motorway.

"Police attended to find a man and woman had stopped on the hard shoulder and were engaged in a dispute.

Traffic was held (ASP)

"A woman was arrested at the scene on suspicion of assault of an emergency worker and section 47 assault.

"She currently remains in custody awaiting interview.

"Enquiries are ongoing."
