Traffic-free trial of Capel Street and Parliament Street to be extended, Dublin City Council confirms

Dublin City Council has announced that the traffic-free trial of Capel Street and Parliament Street is to be extended until October 3.

The public consultation, which ended on September 20, received over 7,000 submissions - making it the most popular consultation in the Council's history.

The submissions will now be considered and a report prepared for elected members, where the preferred planning option will be revealed.

Whichever option is brought forward, it will be subject to "further consultation and any necessary statutory requirements".

Since the start of the summer, over 1,300 square metres of buildouts and extra public space has been built, which has allowed bars and restaurants on Capel and Parliament Street to facilitate outdoor dining.

All of these buildouts will stay in place over the winter months and will be reviewed next year at an appropriate time.

Capel Street and Parliament Street have been traffic-free from 18:30–23:30 on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights from June 11.

This has since been extended in mid-July and then again at the end of August with the final date initially planned for September 26.
