Traffic diversions in Lenton for up to 3 months for electricity cabling work

Traffic diversions will be put in place across Lenton for up to three months while ageing electricity cables are replaced.

Western Power Distribution (WPD) says more than £500,000 will be spent on 2km of new cabling in Wollaton Road, Triumph Road, Derby Road and University North Road.

Cable reinforcement works will also take place a three substations along the same route to help improve the reliability of the electricity supply to more than 1,000 homes in the area.

Work is set to begin on January 25.

“This investment will help to safeguard electricity supplies for our customers in the region for years to come by improving the infrastructure and security of our network,” said Paul Davies, WPD’s team manager.

"Our aim is to keep any disruption to an absolute minimum. We have been working with Nottingham City Council, local businesses and residents to schedule our works to minimise the inconvenience in the area.

"We will also be keeping customers and business along the route informed by letter and by visits from WPD staff."

Traffic management schemes and diversion will be in place for the duration of the work, which is set to last between nine and 12 weeks.
