Canberrans are experiencing widespread traffic delays due to road closures and crowds vying to get the best vantage point for this morning's RAAF flyover marking the air force's 100th anniversary.
ACT Policing has reduced high-density roads Kings Avenue, Parkes Way and Commonwealth Avenue to one lane. While it is still possible to cross from one side of Lake Burley Griffin to the other, progress is slow.
ACT Policing has advised Canberrans to avoid these roads if possible, due to the presence of large amounts of traffic.
"The lane closures are there to stop people bumping into each other as the planes fly over", an ACT Policing spokesperson said.
The flyover will feature 60 different types of aircraft to commemorate 100 years of the RAAF. The first planes will fly at 11:15, moving from east to west across Lake Burley Griffin.
